Fenway

Well, on sunday we went to Fenway to watch the 2nd game of a double header against my Seattle Mariners.  Both of our brothers came along for the game.  We didnt actually think that the game was going to be played.  Rain fell for pretty much the whole game,  but still they played.  I wore my Mariners jersey and hat to the game and actually thought that the Red sox nation would lynch me but they have great fans.  I got a few dirty looks and a little fun ribbing but other than that it was an experience of a lifetime.  We had bleacher seats and actually sat 4 rows up next to the Mariners dugout.  The best part of the whole game was Richie Sexsons grand slam to lead the Mariners to a much needed victory,  lets hope they can keep it rolling.

We entered the park on Yawkey way and it was a pretty cool atmosphere.  I think it would have been much better had the weather cooperated. Ex Red sox pitcher  Luis Tiant has a food stand there.  We held out though for the hot dogs.  I bought my very own anti- yankee shirt off of a guy selling shirts outside the park after the game.   We are in Virginia now at Seans parents house and are headed to the Orioles game tomorrow, and we should have pictures of that.  We are planning on seeing Babe Ruth’s birthplace and We are going to snag something from Boog’s out in right field.

In addition to seeing all the ballparks we are seeing some great historical places and today we went to the bull run battlesight in Manassas.  This was  the sight of 2 major civil war battles.  Just another reason to appreciate this great country.

Internet problems

Last night we stayed in Jamaica, New York and had some problems with our internet.  Anyways, so we saw the Yankees game last night and it was almost called due to rain.  We purchased bleacher tickets in advance and found out the hard way that if you buy bleacher seats that you can only see the bleacher area.  So, we did not get to see the rest of the stadium and monument park.  The bleacher seats were a fun atmosphere though.  The fans out there do a roll call during the 1st inning where they chant each Yankee players name until that player acknowledges them.  That was pretty neat to see.  The day before that we saw Kris Benson’s first start of the year at Shea and it was a great game as Piazza hit a home run (watch it here).  The ball park seemed more open in person.  The day before that we were in Cooperstown where we fortunately got to meet the President of the hall of fHof_exteriorame Dale Petroskey.  We talked alittle baseball with him and then The Vice president Jeff Idelson took some time out of his busy schedule to show us around alittle bit.  As you can imagine we were in awe of the whole hall of fame.  One cool exhibit we got to see was, they have a baseball from every no hitter since the hall of fame opened in 1939.  We have pictures but we can’t update them right now so be on the lookout.

En Route to Cooperstown

Well today was a travel day for us and after a long day of driving we have made it into New York.  Our next stop is Cooperstown.  Both Kevin and I are very excited to be going to the Hall of Fame and be close to all of the legends.  We are then off to NYC to watch the Mets and the Yankees.  We both have the feeling that these games are going to be electric.  Thanks to everyone who has been following us so far and a big thanks to all the men and women overseas making all of our baseball experiences possible.

Louisville and Cincinnati

We stayed Near Louisville, Kentucky last night.  We woke up this morning and went to the Louisville Slugger Museum and factory.  The whole experience was awesome. Louisville_2 We watched as they spun a Neifi Perez bat, and we took a few cuts with some major leaguers bats at the batting cage at the Museum.  Sean used the Kirby Pucket model and I used the Ken Griffey Jr. model.  The bat factory is a must on a ballpark tour because it is only 100 miles out of Cincinnati.  Thanks to Deana and the rest of the Louisville slugger staff  for their great hospitality, and also for letting us take the tour for free.  Well, after that we shot up to Cincy for the Reds and Cardinals.  We watched a pretty good game as the Reds could not hold a 6 run lead in the 9th.  One highlight for me was Griffey’s 2nd homerun of the season.  Griff became a favorite growing up a Mariners fan.  It had been a long time since I had a chance to see him go yard in person.  That and you just have to root for the guy after all he has been through in the last couple of years.

The Great American Ballpark is an amazing  new field.  It has an outstanding view of the Ohio river and is easy to get to off the freeway.  Parking is great and traffic wasn’t bad at all.  Many thanks to Mary Goebel and the Cincinnati Reds for giving us the opportunity to view the game for free. Overall the park was great and lives up to its name as the Great American Ballpark.  The hotdogs on the other hand could use a little work.  I wasn’t impressed with Cincinnati’s dugout dog so they will fall to the bottom of the current standings.
